Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said that "“Censorship reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime.” Do you agree or disagree with his opinion? Why?

I agree with society’s lack of confidence, because we do not like changes. We live in a society that has many characteristic of the world, yet we do not accept the characteristic; because we want what is normal rather than abnormal. We would hide or live in denial because we can’t accept the changes in our lives. Books are censor due to parent’s disapproval of how the books will reflect on their children. If the book is dealing with gangs selling drugs, a parent feels that their children will become drugs dealers. Parent believes that what their children read will result in bad behaviors. Therefore society had lack of confidence in dealing with changes because, we rather be safe than unsafe.

The litigants in the Mozert case argued that the textbooks their children used were not "balanced" when it came to the presentation of controversial topics. What specific complaints did they have about the Holt reader? Were their concerns reasonable for textbooks used in a public school? Why or why not?

The complaint about the Holt reader was fundamentalist to religious belief, along with personal decision making, imagination, world unity, negative portrayals, women roles, stereotype, fairy tales and ect. They are complaint because parents and others do not want their children to learn unsuitable education that they won’t need for the “real world” or could harm them in the future. The concerns regarding the textbook used in public education as new materials, “that education is not what is was in the old days.” That textbooks present “multiculturalism, environmentalism, and globalism” to young children while reading the books, yet it present/show what life should be. (Ie p.5 last paragraph starting with Home meant a single-family… and babies did not throw up on the dog.) They think that textbook used in public school is a sign of act against God, and the parent want to censor them. I think that parent feel like they do not want their children to grow up because, they are protecting their children from reading school textbooks. Textbook are evil because it’s against God and what God taught their children. I do no think that it is reasonable for parent to used religion to stop their children from reading school textbooks.

How does this image represent John Stuart Mill's ideas of the dangers of popular opinion and Tyranny of the Majority?
In this image, shown a group of followers who are jumping off the edge. It represents Mill’s idea of dangers of popular opinion and tyranny of Majority, because if one person can manipulate a person to follow and jump off the edge than, that person can also influences more followers to follow his lead and do as told.

Use one example from contemporary American society to support your point
One of the example from contemporary American society is…

An example of contemporary American society of popular opinion is women having to be skinny. It is a danger sign for young girls to be skinny; because society has no room for “fat girls”. All girls need to be a Barbie perfect figure because; when watching television all we see are skinny, flat stomach, beauty girls, tall girls, and size 4 that consider the perfect shape. Although, if we do see fat girls on television they are the outsider, they are called names, they are ugly, they are made fun of because of their weight and shape. Also size 6 is considered too big to fit into the “Skinny” world. We are teaching young girls that skinny are the shape to be, and being fat is not. Media is an easy target for young teen to learn, the powerful message of being thin is beautiful and overweight is not.

According to Milton, why or how does truth become a "heresy" if a person only believes things because his pastor or his government tells him so?
AccordiNg to MiltoN, the “heresy” become truth do to the individual owN beliefs. That they have the right to choice what they believe. If it’s from pastor or goverNment, its up to that persoN; because he/she caN thiNk for their owN. Also church is a principle of “truth” and if a persoN does Not believe in church he/she will have siN.

Why does Milton find that dangerous?
Milton find this dangerous, because people tend to listen and believe what the pastor or government tell them. That the pastor/government know what is best for us, and that they have authority over everyone; because they are higher in society class. That we are consider as follower because, if we have one person believing in pastor/government than it will spread to others; therefore, “truth” was not what people believe it was.

Do you agree with Milton?
I agree with Milton, because people tend to listening to what the pastor/government tells us, and what they said is right, and they are not wrong. That a person must listen to both sides of the story, so that they can make their own discussion on what “truth” is; further more its that person opinion to believe what they believe without out interferes and meddling.
